Blueridges: Almost Ready

Just an update on the Blueridge topmount speedboard. These decks are about a month out from production runs. They will be lighter, and have a slightly different concave that will allow for us to not have to use liquid rubber in the decks like we had to do so in the prototype versions. We will also be offering the Blueridge in a dropthrough version, and an underflush version for a small additional charge. These boards are gonna be sick!!

Also there will be a balsa wood core version that will be offered in topmount or underflush only for the time being. This deck will be much lighter, just as strong, but cost more money as it will also use carbon fiber along with the fiberglass.

Aside from the Blueridge we have been quite busy at Night Skateboards. Soon to be out is a 1″ Drop Deck, a new symmetrical downhill board, new concave options, and hopefully in the not to distant future a Foam Core Topmount Speedboard which is pictured below.

So I finished the first two prototypes of the torsion box speedboard found in the previous post. This board has officially been named the Blueridge! It is a 41″ long deck that in prototyping was 10″ wide but after some discussion with the testers we decided to make the board 10.5 inches wide. This board has a 3/8″ thick vlam torsion box that on the first proto was made out of tigerwood and basswood, but I did not like the working qualities of the tigerwood so for the second proto I switched it to purpleheart. The deck comes outfitted with Night Skateboards ‘Taco Cave’ and wheelbases varying from 31″-33″.

After more discussion with the testers we determined that the taper in the board needed to be lessened in the back in order to give taller riders more foot space whilst tucking or cornering. This will be fixed in the production runs of the board as the amount of foot room that will be added is not going to affect the structural aspect of the board.

Two New Prototypes Being Tested… Soon To Be On Sale

First off is the 49″ Vlam Dancer. This board is awesome having personally ridden it my self for about a week. It is constructed in a similar way to the Rocker Convex Vlam Mini. It is constructed of purpleheart and basswood backed by a sheet of 1/8″ baltic birch ply wood. It has a great flex and a wonderful return to center. It has 1/4″ of concave and 1/8″ of camber that allows for a nice comfortable ride. This board has plenty of footspace and makes dancing or boardwalking a breeze. The three inch nose and tails makes manuals a piece of cake and the 37″ wheel base makes carving this monster feel as if you were on a wave. This board also comes with deeeep wheel wells that allow you to run larger wheels, and for the Prototype I decided to have a go at a raised purpleheart veneer logo.

The Second board is still not completed but is getting great review so far in terms of shape and how functional the shape looks. This board is the Vlam Torsion Box Speedboard… which still needs a name other than that. The prototype is constructed of 2x 1/8″ Baltic Birch plywood pressed with the classic Night Skateboards Taco Cave, that is then coated with fiberglass on the bottom. Then a torsion box, which in the prototype is constructed of Basswood and Tigerwood, but for production runs the Tigerwood will be replaced with Purpleheart as it is lighter and the qualities of the wood are much better, is added to the board. The box and board are then coated with another layer of fiberglass, and the board is cut out. This prototype turned out much thicker and much heavier than what the production run will be. I am hoping in the long run to be able to shave off half the thickness and 1/3 of the weight. This board is completely stiff and has no flex in any direction what so ever. This board will be drilled to have wheelbases of 31″ 32″ and 33.” The board rocks and should be a great one to be added to the Night Skateboards line.
